Your IONT charger in Home Assistant
Monitor and control charging right from your smart home. Local, over your own network, no cloud and no account. Free.
Why connect your charger to Home Assistant
The e:car WALL SMART and PREMIUM chargers talk to your smart home directly – with no middleman.
No cloud.
Home Assistant talks to the charger directly on your network. Works without internet.
Updates every 10 seconds.
Power, energy and charging state in near real time.
Charge from the sun.
Start charging only when your solar panels produce a surplus.
Free and open.
The integration and its library are open source (MIT license).
What the integration can do
Once added, the charger appears as a device with each connector beneath it as its own device, with its own sensors and controls.
- available charging power, charger status, charging strategy (normal, eco, boost),
- configured power limit and free-charging mode,
- an external power limit a home energy manager can use to cap the charger.
- charging and vehicle state (connected, ready, error),
- live power, session and lifetime energy,
- per-phase current, vehicle battery level on DC connectors,
- a charging authorization switch (like tapping a card),
- a Boost button for full power even in eco mode,
- a problem alert for the vehicle or cable.
- per-phase voltage and frequency, temperatures, breaker limits, uptime,
- diagnostics download for support.
Use cases
What you can actually build:
- Solar surplus charging. An automation turns authorization on when the house exports more than 2 kW and off when it starts importing.
- Energy dashboard. Car charging as an individual device in the Home Assistant energy overview.
- Notifications. A phone alert when the car is charged or the charger reports an error.
- Home load management. The external power limit keeps total draw under the main breaker.
Advanced example: start charging on grid export (turning it off is handled by a second, similar automation).
What you need
- an IONT e:car WALL SMART or PREMIUM charger (Modbus TCP),
- Home Assistant 2026.9 or newer,
- HACS (the Home Assistant Community Store) installed,
- the charger and Home Assistant on the same network,
- Modbus TCP enabled in the charger admin (Protocols). To control charging also allow writing; reading is enough for monitoring.
Step-by-step installation
- In Home Assistant, open HACS and search for IONT. (Until it is in the default HACS catalogue: top-right menu → Custom repositories → add the repository address, type Integration.)
- Select Download and restart Home Assistant.
- Go to Settings → Devices & services → Add integration → IONT.
- Enter the charger IP address. Port 30502 is pre-filled.
- Done. The charger appears as a device, with each connector beneath it.
Tip: give the charger a fixed IP address in your router.
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost anything?
No, it is free and open source (MIT license).
Do I need a cloud service or an IONT account?
No. Everything runs locally on your network.
The integration will not connect.
Check that Modbus TCP is enabled in the charger admin, that the IP address and port 30502 are correct, and that the charger is on the same network.
I already added the charger with a manual Modbus YAML setup.
The charger accepts only one Modbus connection at a time. Remove the manual setup from configuration.yaml and restart Home Assistant, or the integration cannot connect.
Monitoring works, but the switch or Boost reports an error.
Enable Modbus writing in the charger admin interface.
Will it be built into Home Assistant without HACS?
The integration has been submitted to Home Assistant for review. The Home Assistant team decides the timing. Once accepted, Home Assistant will offer to switch over automatically.
