Choosing your first wallbox or charging station can be tricky. A well-chosen station will serve you for years and save money. Here are answers to the questions we are asked most often.
Choice and price
How much does a wallbox cost?
Prices vary considerably with the equipment. The e:car WALL wallbox with one socket in the BASIC 11 kW version starts at CZK 14,900 excl. VAT. The e:car WALL PRO with two sockets in the PREMIUM AFIR version costs CZK 58,000 excl. VAT: a professional station with billing-grade metering, compliant with Eichrecht and AFIR, which can be operated as a public or semi-public station. See current prices in our e-shop.
Which power should I choose, 11 or 22 kW?
It depends on the car’s on-board charger and the building’s protection. Most EVs charge on AC at up to 11 kW, which fully charges the car overnight. 22 kW makes sense if the car supports it or you want to charge two cars at once.
We want a wallbox for our company – which one?
A wallbox is a wall-mounted charging station. For businesses we recommend the e:car WALL PRO, and the e:car DC WALL for fast charging. The e:car WALL is intended mainly for private use but can be used at a company. Where a wall mount is not possible, choose the free-standing e:car COLUMN. More on the business charging page.
Can the station be customised?
Yes. We adapt the front panel, colours, logo and equipment from a single unit. We develop and manufacture our stations in Czechia.
Installation and wiring
What are the requirements for the supply cable?
We need to know how many cars will charge at once, how far the station will be from the distribution board, what power you will charge at, where the cable will run and whether you plan more stations.
- Wallboxes up to 22 kW and lengths up to approx. 30 m: 5 × 6 mm² cable (CYKY-J 5x6).
- Longer distances: 5 × 10 mm² to limit voltage drop and cable heating.
The exact cross-section is always set by the certified partner when designing the installation.
What protection do we need?
Protection is designed for the total power. All our stations have an integrated residual current device (RCD). The most common scenarios:
- One car at 11 kW: 3 × 16 A
- One car at 22 kW: 3 × 32 A
- Two cars at once, 2 × 11 kW: 3 × 32 A
SMART and PREMIUM wallboxes have dynamic load management, so the protection can be matched to the available capacity of the main breaker.
Who installs the station?
IONT tech develops and manufactures the stations. Installation, commissioning and inspection are carried out by certified IONT installation partners across the Czech Republic. After your enquiry we will put you in touch with a suitable partner.
Is an inspection required?
Yes. After installation the partner commissions and tests the station and issues an inspection report to Czech standards. See how installation works on the installation and service page.
Operation and app
How do I control the station?
No complicated setup on the station. In the IONT info app you manage users and RFID, start charging remotely, set charging times and view statistics.
Can I charge from solar panels?
Yes. SMART wallboxes can charge from surplus solar power thanks to their own metering. They do not communicate with the inverter, so they work with any solar system. See the home wallbox page for details.
Can the station be operated as a public one?
Yes, PREMIUM AFIR stations with billing-grade metering can be operated as public or semi-public stations. We can handle operation and payments for you, see public station operation.
Which charging cable do I need?
A station with a Type 2 socket needs your own charging cable. Choose from our charging cables.
Warranty and subsidies
What warranty do you give?
The device comes with a 2-year warranty and the power electronics with a 3-year warranty. We provide service and spare parts directly as the manufacturer.
Is there a subsidy for a wallbox at a family house?
The New Green Savings programme offers CZK 10,000 per charging point as part of a solar PV subsidy (Oprav dům po babičce). See the overview on the charging station subsidies page.
