Czech start-up wins iF DESIGN AWARD 2025 for its e:bike BAR product
A Czech start-up IONT tech s.r.o. from Nové Město nad Metují has been recognised for its product e:bike BARwith the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD 2025. This is a world-renowned accolade from one of the oldest independent design institutions in the world. As such, the award is testament to exceptional quality and outstanding design.
The award was presented in the product design discipline, specifically in the cycling category. The e:bike BAR product is entirely designed and manufactured in the Czech Republic. It earned a high rating from the expert jury not only for its elegant design and precise craftsmanship, but also thanks to its sustainable and innovative approach to urban mobility.
IONT tech thus proves that even smaller Czech companies can succeed among the world's best and contribute to innovation on an international scale. Congratulations on this achievement; it is an honour for us to work with companies of such potential.

CHARGING STATIONS for e-bikes and e-scooters in the Park below the Church
Two new charging stations for e-bikes and e-scooters can be used free of charge in Tišnov by residents and tourists alike. This is another step in Tišnov's ambition to become a modern town that places emphasis on the environment, innovation and the comfort of its citizens and visitors.
The charging stations are located in the Park below the Church, which offers a setting for both relaxation and active leisure. What is more, visitors can borrow charging cables for e-bikes at the refreshment kiosk during opening hours, as these differ for various types of bike. Of the four charging boxes, two are dedicated to charging cables for the best-selling models from BOSCH and the other two are universal. Cyclists can of course also use their own cables, which must be compatible with IONT tech. For e-scooters, the cables are universal and are built into the charging stations. They can therefore be used all year round without restriction.
„I am delighted that we have managed to take another step towards improving life in the town. We believe this benefit will encourage residents to make greater use of e-bikes and e-scooters as an excellent alternative to cars. In the coming years, we would like to continue installing further charging stations in Tišnov,“ explained Karel Souček, First Deputy Mayor of Tišnov.
The stations were supplied by IONT tech, a Czech leader in clean mobility solutions. The charging stations are designed to blend naturally into the public space and to offer fast and easy charging.
The town received several bids for the charging stations. Design also played a role in the selection. The town's architect, Zdeňka Vydrová, chose one that suits the setting of the Park below the Church in style.

New charging stations support cyclists and tourism
The town of Bystřice pod Hostýnem has taken another step towards sustainable transport and the promotion of clean mobility. Two charging stations for e-bikes from IONT tech, a leading Czech manufacturer of smart clean mobility solutions, have been installed in key locations around the town.
The charging stations have been strategically located:
● On Masaryk Square in the town centre, near the Church of St Giles, where they form a natural part of the public space.
● In the municipal park by the swimming pool, a popular spot for both relaxation and sporting activities. A modern solution for residents and visitors alike. The attractive design of the stations encourages residents to use them more often. Thanks to their durable steel construction, they have a long service life and are well suited as part of the urban furniture for public spaces.
Our town is surrounded on all sides by greenery that attracts tourists and pilgrims alike. The Hostýn Hills and their Hostýn Trail, with more than 52 kilometres of routes, are a sought-after destination. Charging stations for e-bikes are a great addition to this infrastructure, allowing visitors to comfortably explore the surroundings and return fully charged with energy – and not just in their batteries,“ said Mgr. Mojmír Heryán, Deputy Mayor of Bystřice pod Hostýnem.
Tomáš Pánek, a representative of the company that supplied the charging stations, noted that “IONT tech has long been dedicated to the development of clean mobility, and the installation of these stations is another step towards building a network that offers cyclists reliable access to charging in a further part of the country. Sole traders and companies can apply for grants towards electric cars. Support for a passenger car reaches up to 200 thousand crowns
The grant for chargers, however, cannot be applied for on its own. Their purchase is tied to the number of cars bought on a one-to-one basis. So if a company acquires three vehicles under the grant, it can also apply for grants towards three chargers.
Tomáš Pánek, founder and CEO of Iont tech, the company that manufactures the charging stations in the Czech Republic, is critical of this model. „It's a shame, because companies need to build charging infrastructure rather than dealing with it only when acquiring a vehicle,“ he said. In his view, it is precisely the unpreparedness of the infrastructure that is one of the obstacles to the development of e-mobility.
The Ministry of Industry, which published the grant call, explains its system of support for charging stations by pointing out that the department is primarily responsible for supporting businesses. „That is why the number of charging stations is tied to the number of supported zero-emission vehicles,“ said Miluše Trefancová from the press department, adding that the expansion of the charging network is mainly the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport.

Sustainable charging infrastructure from the Czech Republic

Before buying an electric car, first sort out how you will charge it, an expert advises
When switching to e-mobility, customers often address buying the car first and only then think about charging it. „Then they find they don't have a charging chip, or there's no socket in their garage,“ points out Tomáš Pánek, whose company IONT tech manufactures charging stations for electric cars and bikes in the Czech Republic.
Interest in electric cars in the Czech Republic is growing, but their market share is still small and we lag behind the rest of Europe in the roll-out of the new technology. The state wants to change this with grants for companies to acquire electric cars and charging stations. It is not planning any for ordinary members of the public.
According to Pánek, the grants could have been set up better. He sees a problem, for example, in the fact that a charging station cannot be acquired through the grant on its own, but only together with an electric car, which does not help companies to prepare properly for e-mobility. He also sees it as a limitation that grant-supported cars can be acquired in only one way, namely on credit, with no other options possible.

Welcome to the e-mobility showroom
The largest showcase of clean mobility in the Czech Republic, the e-SALON 2023 trade fair, has completed its fifth year. The organisers from PVA EXPO Letňany managed to put together a truly spectacular show of electric, hybrid and other eco-friendly vehicles and means of transport from many brands. Charging technologies and exhibits related to e-mobility and its infrastructure were not missing either. Hands-on experience and test rides were available too, in record attended test drives.

My first second-hand electric car was a Renault ZOE. I bought it in December 2017 as a five-year-old vehicle. It was the first version, the Q210, and the price was quite reasonable at 350 thousand. I sorted everything out myself; the vehicle was bought from a used-car dealer. My advantage was that I had been moving in the world of e-mobility since 2013.
I have owned several electric cars, but until then all of them new. We still own the vehicle; a colleague at work currently uses it. Over the years it has needed nothing beyond routine servicing. The only blemish is the replacement of the air-conditioning/heat pump. This is a fairly common fault on this type of car. It has now covered over 150 thousand kilometres and the battery capacity has dropped by two per cent.
Ideally I would buy a vehicle from an expert; in this respect a great deal of work has been done, for example, by Aures Holding (Mototechna), which provides significantly more accurate data on battery condition than the authorised service centres of the individual brands. How can you charge electric cars at attractive prices? A user can achieve an attractive charging price if they charge the vehicle not with electricity bought at a pre-agreed price, but according to the current real price of electricity on the so-called spot market. The wallbox has to be what is known as smart, and this is usually a paid feature, or a higher-level system, for example the Loxone smart-home control unit, can contact the OTE operator's portal, where it retrieves the hourly spot prices for each following day. Charging is then started at the most favourable time. Alternatively, the user sets suitable times via a timer, explains Tomáš Pánek from IONT tech. In exceptional cases you can charge at a negative price, because in doing so you will be helping to stabilise the electricity grid... More here on IDNES

Electric car charger
An electric car charger is not just a socket; it is a sophisticated electrical device. Compared to an ordinary socket, it is far safer. High voltage is used to charge an electric car, so it is important to pay attention to the safety of the whole process. How can you ensure efficient and convenient charging of your vehicle's battery?
When you buy a new electric car, you will usually receive a connecting cable with a Type 2 connector and a charger for emergency charging from an ordinary 230 V socket.
Such a charger should really only be used in an emergency, to reach a proper charging station where you can charge quickly and safely. It is not so much the charger itself that is dangerous as the socket into which you plug the charger, or rather their connection.
The wiring in a house may not be optimally dimensioned for such a high draw over such a long time. Imagine it is the equivalent of an electric kettle switched on continuously for 10 hours or more.
In some countries that have more experience with e-mobility, insurers refuse to pay out in the event of fires if precisely such an emergency charger was used. With this method of charging, you need to check the charger to make sure it is not overheating. The use of extension leads is another bad habit that can end in a fire.
