The obligation to build charging stations in 2025: what you need to know

The new Building Act No. 283/2021 Coll. introduces an obligation to install electric vehicle charging stations in all non-residential buildings with more than 20 parking spaces. The obligation applies to new and existing buildings as well as building alterations, and takes effect from 1 January 2025.
  • Support for electromobility – the EU and the Czech Republic promote sustainability and emissions reduction.
  • Time to prepare – make the most of the ample time to plan your investment.
  • Gradual roll-out – the obligation from 1/2025 allows for a smooth transition.
  • A sharp rise in electric vehicles – demand for charging points is expected to grow rapidly.
Key dates and deadlines:
1 July 2024 – the Act comes into effect.
1 January 2025 – the final deadline for ensuring charging stations are built.
Building owners should start planning their steps now in order to meet the legal requirements in good time.
What exactly does the Act say?
„By 1 January 2025, Member States shall set requirements for the installation of a minimum number of charging stations in all non-residential buildings with more than twenty parking spaces.“
